Lucia, Lucia

Set in the early 1950s, Lucia Sartori looks to a bright future. Living in the heart of the Italian section of New York City as the only girl in a family of boys, she has been admired not only for her great beauty, but for her situation in life. A “career girl”, she works successfully as a seamstress in one of the most elite department stores in the city. The only shadow over her otherwise charmed life is that of marriage. While the acceptable path for her is to marry a nice Italian boy, she has other ideas for her future. Going against tradition by dating a non-Italian, Lucia also has ideas about the role she will play in the commercial world. Challenging the cultural and social conventions of her time, Lucia dreams of the freedom to follow both her heart and the skills she has.
